Pupil Premium
At Croxteth Primary School, we have the highest expectations for all our children, ensuring that each child reaches their full potential, both academically and socially. In order to do this, we engage a range of strategies to issue challenge at an appropriate level, and provide support to overcome barriers to learning. We provide a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum, which makes an exceptional contribution to pupils’ outcomes so that our children achieve exceptionally well now, in the next stage of their education and in adult life.
What is Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium is a sum of money given to school by the Government to improve the attainment of disadvantaged children. This is based on research showing children from specific backgrounds and/or low income families perform less well at school than their peers.
Who is Eligible for Pupil Premium?
- Children who are entitled to benefits-related free school meals (see FSM information & criteria below)
- Children who have a parent in HM Forces (Army, Navy or RAF)
- Children who have a parent who has died whilst serving in the Armed Forces and is eligible for the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme or War Pensions Scheme as a result
- Children who have been adopted (Adoption Order)
- Children who have alternative care provisions such as a Child Arrangement Order, Special Guardianship Order or Residency Order
If you think your child may be eligible, please contact the school office to check your eligibility. It only takes a couple of minutes to check whether you are eligible, and the additional funding we receive makes a huge difference to the support that we are able to offer our children.
Early Years Pupil Premium
Early Years Pupil Premium may be available for your child aged 2-4. The criteria is very similar to that of main school Pupil Premium. If you believe your child may be eligible, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Pupil Premium Spending
By following the key principles below, we believe we can maximise the impact of our Pupil Premium spending.
Identification of Pupils
We will ensure that:
- All teaching staff and support staff are involved in the identification of pupil premium and vulnerable children
- All teaching staff and school governors are involved in the analysis of data
Analysing Data
We will ensure that:
- All staff are involved in the analysis of school data so that they are fully aware of strengths and weaknesses across the school
- We use research (such as the Sutton Trust Toolkit and Education Endowment Fund) to support us in determining the strategies that will be most effective in closing the gap and raising the attainment and progress of our children
Ongoing Improvement of Teaching and Learning
We will ensure that:
- All children receive daily access to good teaching and increase the percentages of outstanding lessons across the school
- We set high expectations of all our children
- We continue to improve assessment through levelling, cross phase moderation and INSET with other primary schools in the Trust
- Teachers use analysis of class data to plan specifically for the strengths and areas to develop for their children to ensure optimum progress and attainment
- We continue to share good practice through modelled lessons, INSET, external training providers and provide high quality CPD for all teaching and support staff
Provision and Individualised Support
We will ensure that provision is made that:
- Facilitates each pupil’s access to education and the curriculum
- Looks at the individual needs of each child and identifying their barriers to learning
- Tailors interventions to the specific learning needs of that child
- In particular, provides small group work and 1: 1 teaching with our support staff focused on overcoming barriers and gaps in pupils’ learning and accelerating progress and attainment
- Provides earlier interventions at EYFS & KS1 to remove/prevent barriers to learning
- Matches the skills of support staff to the interventions they provide
- Ensures teaching and support staff have regular opportunities to communicate about their children and evaluate progress
- Utilises alternative support, intervention and expertise from outside agencies
- Supports the funding of enrichment opportunities and educational visits to enhance pupils’ learning opportunities outside the classroom
- Continues to improve attendance and punctuality to maximise learning time
- Provides support for parents and carers to support their children’s learning within the curriculum e.g. maths, phonics and reading workshops in school.

The government has also provided national funding to be spent on the provision and enhancement of PE, sport and physical activity within schools.
